In the 2022 South Carolina Schools Report Card – the first year Butler Academy was eligible for a rating – the new charter school was rated as EXCELLENT, the highest rating available.

“While we were confident that our academic model, committed staff, and strong values-centered culture would yield positive results, without the exceptional academic achievements of our scholars, few would be satisfied,” said Butler President and Co-Founder Jerome Reyes. “To be successful, schools must deliver academic progress.

“The SC Schools Report card helps parents, and community members learn more about the strengths and challenges in their schools and provides valuable information to educators as we all work together to create continuous improvement,” Reyes added. “We are in the business of learning and growth, so while this year’s excellent rating says something quite remarkable about Butler Academy today, it is an important reminder that we need to work very hard to keep growing. Our scholars deserve our very best effort.”

Among the academic achievements that drove this year’s excellent rating were the following:

    • ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS and MATH (SC Ready) - The percentage of Butler Academy scholars from the Class of 2029 who met or exceeded expectations surpassed the statewide percentage and the South Carolina Public Charter School District’s percentage.

    • MATH (SC Ready) - The percentage of Butler Academy scholars from the Classes of 2029, 2030, and 2031 that met or exceeded expectations in math surpassed the statewide percentage and the South Carolina Public Charter School District’s percentage.

    • SCIENCE (SCPASS) - The percentage of Butler Academy's 4th grade scholars that met or exceeded expectations surpassed the statewide percentage and the South Carolina Public Charter School District’s percentage.

“The Butler Academy Board of Trustees congratulates the teachers, staff, families and scholars of Butler Academy on earning Excellent from the State of South Carolina on the school’s first report card rating. Go Tigers!”, a statement released Wednesday said.

Under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), State Education Agencies are required to prepare and disseminate an annual state report and Local Education Agency (LEA) report card that meet the minimum requirements described in federal law. As defined by South Carolina, an excellent rating means that “school performance substantially exceeds the criteria to ensure all students meet the profile of the South Carolina graduate.”
