Tie Dye for All Ages with Ember Estridge

IMPORTANT: Bring your own shirt to this class. It’s tie-dye for! Please make sure shirts are 100% cotton.

Shirts will soak in soda ash for 30 minutes while you learn some color theory basics. Then Ember Estridge will guide you in different ways to wrap your shirt and dye it. After wrapping your shirts with rubber bands, you will use Jacquard brand fiber dyes to color your shirt. You will take your shirt home after this class. Make sure to follow the aftercare steps to ensure a bold, colorful shirt that will last you for years.

After Care Shirt Instructions:

Leave in the bag for 2-3 days.

Carefully remove shirt and rinse with rubber bands still on until water runs clear. 

Remove rubber bands. Rinse again until water runs clear.

Wash on tap cold with no detergent in your washer.

Wash a second time on tap cold with detergent, then dry in dryer.

After dry, your shirt is ready to wear.

Future washes, wash with darks.

About the Teacher:

I make illustrative art that is explorative and eclectic in nature. Using vivid colors and whimsical themes, I seek to use art as a tool for coping and overcoming the discordant world we live in. Creating both sequential mass consumption pieces as well as stand-alone gallery pieces, I desire my work to captivate a wide audience.

As an art educator in public Title 1 schools, much of my work is inspired and created around the classroom. I tailor projects and lessons to engage and motivate students, impacting my own art making in the process. The resourcefulness and inventiveness of creating art projects accessible to a wide range of students and ages allows me to see multiple possibilities for each art material.
